Forging friendship with the girl next door

I grew up in a world of unlocked doors, shared homes and no strangers. A world without emails, pagers or cell phones. Friendships were forged over long talks, tree climbing, sleepovers and lots of imaginative soul connecting. Children reported home when the big clock in the sky told us it was “dark” – a clock rarely interpreted the same by our parents. It was a simpler time. Read the full story…

The broad brush of teamwork after the game

The crisp October day came with a mix of nervousness and excitement as we readied ourselves for battle. We had home field advantage in the Win-or-Go-Home high school field hockey game and our team was amped. Today’s guest post comes to us from David Covey, a beloved, long-time family friend, who will forever own real estate in my heart. To give you a glimpse, Dave is the man who –20 years ago– congratulated me on my engagement and then turned to Skip, shook his hand firmly, and said, “If you EVER do ANYthing to hurt her… I WILL hunt you down and kill you.” Dave Covey has radio in his blood, is a master entertainer, and after successfully managing businesses and broadcast technologies for close to 50 years, still revels in freelance management, writing, and photography. My friend David embraces life with fervor and writes likewise. Buckle up…
