Come, watch the sunrise with me

Sunrise in Murrells Inlet, SC (July 12, 2015)

I awoke early and my heart quickened for something majestic. I’m not sure where the nudging came from but I craved something invigorating, signifiant, unique. Moments later, I was driving toward the ocean in search of a life-giving sunrise. God is the most creative artist I know and I wanted to be in the front row for this morning’s live painting.

With the windows down in my Jeep, I filled my lungs with delicious, 76-degree (F) salty air, a welcome relief to the 108-degrees we’d endured the day prior. I landed at the Murrrells Inlet Jetty View Walk overlooking the marsh on the south end of Myrtle Beach. The sky so bright, I wondered if I’d missed it. “Be patient,” I said aloud. Google informed me today’s sunrise was at 6:14am and it was still only 5:57am.

I walked along the marsh, enjoying the quiet morning routine of several egrets, a great blue heron — and a tabby cat, who turned out to be quite the accomplished fisherman. Early bird gets the worm, so to speak.

Hearing myself catch my breath, I watched the earth birth the sun like lava rising slowly in a vibrant lava lamp when first flipped on. My photos do not do the genesis justice.

So strong. So purposeful. The glorious ball of magma rose in perfect unity with the symphony of nature. I relished the warmth of its’ majesty on my face.

This space is where one gains clarity. Where life snaps to simplicity and nothing else matters but your next heartbeat. Where the brain releases the heart to push forward and pursue deep-rooted dreams, love, purpose. Where inefficient emotions are transformed into positive energy, allowing you to shift from self-poisoining to self-poise. It’s not control. Rather, it’s release.

 It’s experiential liberation.

My friends, still your mind and just be. Let’s be mindful of the gift we’re given in every heartbeat. Let’s breathe in a place of appreciation. May the sun always shine on your face.
