Health benefits of furry friends

Nothing compares to coming home after a long day and seeing your loyal companion. Even better is when you work from home and get to spend the whole day amidst their love and mischievousness.

Don’t misunderstand . . .

Being an entrepreneur doesn’t mean, “free ride”. It means you work hard and share from your heart. Relentlessly. You set goals. You get goals. You say, “Yes” to the things you want more of and “No” to the things not serving your mission.

You keep promises to yourself and others. You hold yourself accountable because this life you’re living matters. YOU matter.

Oh, and you get as many pup cuddles as you want. That’s the cherry on top. And yes, I’m guilty of writing this blog in part because we welcomed a brand new puppy 10 days ago. Meet Kodi David, 10 weeks old, miniature American Eskimo Dog, who has fully stolen our hearts.

Whether you already have a pet, or are considering bringing one into your home, I feel it’s my duty as your health coach to share the health benefits of having a furry friend to help you work toward your optimal health and wellbeing.

Pets provide comfort
Animals make great companions and truly become part of the family. They bring abundant joy with almost no effort at all. They comfort us when we’re upset, make us laugh, and even help us navigate through challenging times. Pets are playful little love bugs that keep everyone entertained.

Pets add structure to your day
Most pets require regular meals and an exercise schedule. Guess what? So do you! Having a consistent schedule keeps animals balanced and helps pet parents stick to their own daily schedule, too. I know personally, my day would be lost without structure, starting with a consistent morning routine.

Pets provide sensory stress relief
Movement and physical touch are two ways to quickly manage stress in a healthy way. Perfect timing with the holidays in full effect. Petting a dog, cat, hamster, goat, rabbit, chinchilla, or any other animal can help in lowering blood pressure. Been looking for a non-medicinal way to feel calmer? Perhaps a friend like Kodi will help do the trick.

Pets help with exercise
Taking your dog for a daily walk or hike is a fun and rewarding way to implement daily exercise into your schedule. Okay, let’s just call it, “healthy motion” for those who feel “exercise” is a four-letter word. It will also keep your pet fit and healthy, too. Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention all the running around you’ll do when they are still little. Fortunately, there are equally as many naps as times to frolic and play the Eskimo way.

Whether you’re a pet parent, auntie, neighbor, or friend, I encourage you to embrace these health benefits. Time to get your frolic on, dear friends!
