Life in transition: first time in the story of us we’ve started new jobs at the same time

It was 80-degrees today in the Adirondacks. A day filled with dogs walking their owners, topless Jeeps and prematurely shirtless, blindingly pale-chested gents… all paired with the still smattering of snow. Mother Nature in transition.

Transition is good. Or at least it can be.

Hubs and I were reflecting on the timing of our recent transitions, he into his new job and me into mine. This is the first time in the Story of Us we’ve started new jobs at the same time. We simultaneously joined the wide-open, welcoming community of Christ Church and embraced the heart and soul of the Adirondacks. Not to be repetitive, but it’s good to be home.

Twenty years ago when Skip-n-I left the Adirondacks, we never dreamed we’d one day return. Or stay. In fact, if you asked us six months ago, we might’ve told you a transition out of the Adirondacks was on the horizon. Yet here we are and our roots are deeper than ever, perhaps because this is where they were first laid down. Perhaps because for the first time in our restlessness, we feel… settled.

We’re excited about life. About the adventure that’s just begun. To borrow from the Jacobs’ brothersLife is good.

Thanks, Jules. Let’s have a Kaiser Canoe Date this summer! …just the four of us! Preferably on a moonlit eve. xo

So well written .. you truly have a gift. I know that this summer is going to be one of those that we look back upon and breathe deep to say “gosh, what an amazing summer 2011 was”. You and I better be saying that over a Sangria, barefoot and in our jams!! Perhaps Skip can even make a rendition of “Summer of ’69” to “Summer 2011” 🙂 I feel it in my bones – in my heart, down to the core of me that this year holds something magical and wonderful. It’s already been a blessing. Our life journey is remembered with just that extra smile, a warm hug, a cocktail out on the town, to remember how precious life can really be and is. I’m so happy that you feel settled – stay!! Stay always 🙂

You are a precious soul, Jessica and I’m delighted beyond words our journeys have come in sync. Thank you for all your love and encouragement… and especially our jammie friendship! xo
